Does ProFIVE require a power connection? What type of electrical system does it need?

Yes, ProFIVE operates on mains power and is a low-voltage machine (24V). It requires a dedicated AC 220V power line with a circuit breaker and timer. The peak power consumption per unit is 700W, while average consumption is significantly lower.

What happens in the event of a power outage?

The electronic components of ProFIVE manage rope movement during climbing; however, the braking system is entirely mechanical. In the event of a power failure, the rope will no longer be fed out for climbing, but the brake — being mechanical — remains fully operational at all times, ensuring that any fall can be arrested and the climber lowered to the ground in a controlled manner.

Is ProFIVE certified?

ProFIVE holds CE certification. As a machine, it complies with the Machinery Directive and the Low Voltage Directive.

Does ProFIVE require maintenance? How frequently should it be carried out?

ProFIVE is built for long-term durability, meaning component replacement is minimal. However, scheduled inspections are required every twelve months to verify correct operation. The component most subject to wear is the rope, which must be replaced whenever signs of deterioration are observed. Replacement frequency depends on usage (estimated at every 3 to 6 months).

How much does maintenance cost?

The indicative maintenance cost is €850, though this may vary depending on the region. Alternatively, remote-assisted maintenance is also available at a cost of €450.

How often does the rope need to be replaced?

Rope wear depends on the intensity of use. To determine when replacement is necessary, the rope should be visually inspected on a regular basis. Typical rope lifespan ranges from 3 to 6 months, depending on usage.

Why is ProFIVE an innovative and unique product?

ProFIVE is the world’s first device that allows a lead climber to belay themselves completely autonomously, without compromising safety or fluidity of movement. It provides an extremely reliable belay system and enables climbers to experience lead climbing individually, without the need for a partner. Thanks to its innovative design, ProFive is the perfect companion even for the most demanding climbers — allowing them to rest mid-route and resume climbing, including in Top-Rope mode. A further breakthrough is the ability to install ProFIVE on overhanging walls as well, not just vertical ones, opening up a whole new range of routes and training possibilities.

What is the maximum wall height on which ProFIVE can be installed?

ProFIVE is equipped with a 9.4 mm diameter rope, 35 metres in length. It can therefore be installed on any wall — vertical or overhanging — where the total rope development does not exceed 33 metres. As a general guideline, ProFIVE is suitable for walls up to approximately 16 metres in height. To measure correctly, thread the rope through all the quickdraws on the intended route, lower to the ground, and measure the total rope development, which must not exceed 33 metres.

Can ProFIVE be installed on overhanging walls?

Yes, ProFIVE can be installed on vertical and overhanging walls, as well as on walls that transition from vertical to overhanging. When installed on an overhanging surface, the panel on which ProFIVE is mounted must not exceed an inclination of 30° from the vertical.

How is ProFIVE anchored to the wall? Where should it be positioned?

ProFIVE is anchored both to the wall and to the floor. It must be installed at the base of the wall, approximately 15 cm from ground level. The unit is secured to a modular metal rod mounted on the back of the wall and fixed to the floor and is also guided by a metal track installed on the front of the wall. The load-bearing structure of ProFIVE is both highly reliable and straightforward to install.

How many routes can it serve?

ProFIVE is installed between two anchor chains, allowing it to serve two routes simultaneously while leaving space available for traditional lead climbing with a partner.

What happens if the figure-eight knot is tied incorrectly?

Before beginning to climb with ProFIVE, the user must tap a button on the screen to initiate the partner-check procedure. ProFIVE pulls on the rope to verify that the climber is correctly tied in, and simultaneously prompts the user to visually inspect the knot. Correct knot execution, however, remains the sole responsibility of the user.

What happens if I fall with the rope in my hand, or above a quickdraw?

ProFIVE tracks and recognises the climber’s movements in real time. It is capable of detecting rope slack with a very fast response time. If, for example, the climber falls with the rope in hand, or falls above a quickdraw causing slack to form as the rope drops, the slack is immediately taken up at high speed — reducing free fall distance, impact force, and overall fall length.

What happens if I fall from the first quickdraw?

ProFive is calibrated to the wall geometry and quickdraw positioning, and continuously tracks the climber’s position through the rope. The belay behaviour adapts accordingly: at the first and second quickdraws is static; at the third and fourth, it becomes short-dynamic; beyond that, it transitions to a soft, long-dynamic belay. This adaptive behaviour ensures the optimal balance between safety and comfort at every point on the route.

Can I rest mid-route?

ProFIVE does not lock on command — the climber must let go and weight the rope to be held. A dynamic, soft belay is always applied (static in the case of the first quickdraws), after which the climber is held in position. From that point, it is possible to rest and choose whether to continue climbing or be lowered to the ground. To resume climbing, simply start moving upward again — ProFIVE will take up the rope in second-belay mode up to the last quickdraw, then switch to lead mode to pay out rope for the continued ascent. To be lowered, simply wait 25 seconds and the descent will begin automatically.

After a fall, can I resume climbing?

Yes. After any fall, it is always possible to resume climbing. The rope will be taken up in second-belay mode up to the last quickdraw, at which point ProFIVE will switch to lead mode and continue to pay out rope for the ongoing ascent.

What are the minimum and maximum supported weights?

ProFIVE can be used by climbers weighing a minimum of 20 kg (suitable for children) up to a maximum of 120 kg.
